66 - An introduction to frame integrated gearing

A new revolution in cycling design?

Today, we are focussing on one new technology.

Frame-integrated drivetrains for bikes.

Will this be a step-change in bike design? Here is an overview, let us know what you think:

A frame-Integrated gearbox that offers a wider ratio development on bikes with a front single chainring, such as Gravel & MTB

Who are MagneticDays?

At MagneticDays we believe that cycling is much more than a sport, it is often true passion, enthusiasm, the desire to feel good about yourself, your goals and dreams. This is why we are committed to developing products that make the cycling experience even better. In the last 10 years we have become world famous for having created "The Ferrari of Smart Trainers", the JARVIS. Not just a roller for indoor training, but a real laboratory for improving performance.

New Idea: Binary Gears

BINARY is a gearbox integrated into the bicycle frame which allows you to have an extra gear, overcoming the limits of the single chainring.

BINARY® patented-pending technology is an innovative shifting system that allows you to change gears instantly and under full load by acting directly at the bottom bracket level of the bike.

The BINARY movement offers a unique shifting quality that can exploit the advantages of a single chainring gear applied to a double gear system and thus obtain maximum power. Without limitations.

The patented-pending BINARY® Gear technology is a 2-speed rear derailleur system integrated into the bottom bracket that makes, quickly and easily, doubling the range of use of a single chainring possible: from one gear with a 1:1 ratio to one with a 25% increase.

FAQ

Is BINARY system a gearbox?

YES, Binary is to all intents and purposes a two-speed gearbox: the first transmits to the sprocket carrier a speed with a ratio of 1:1 to the rotation speed of the cranks, the second transmits a speed with a ratio of 1:1.25

Is BINARY system mounted instead of the bottom bracket?

YES, The Binary System is in fact a bottom bracket including a crankshaft and the corresponding pair of cranks, on which all types of pedals can be mounted (Pedals are NOT included in the product)

Is BINARY compatible with all types of bicycles?

NO, the System can currently only be installed on frames with a Pressfit 46 type bottom bracket or on the new T47.

Is the BINARY system easy to install?

YES, mounting the system on the bike is extremely easy, although we recommend having it installed by a technician in a specialised workshop.

Can all types of chainrings be mounted on the system?

YES, 4- or 5-hole sprockets/chainrings of any type can be mounted. For the system to work, the sprockets to be used are smaller than those normally used with a classic rear derailleur, which is why the standard spider supplied is the 4-hole 104 mm MTB spider, but different models can be ordered.

Is it possible to use chainrings with non-standard teeth?

YES, we have in our catalogue chainrings with non-standard teeth that can be purchased as accessories of the Binary.

What is the length of the pedal cranks?

The pedal cranks supplied with the Binary system have the special MD pedal attachment bushing, which allows the length to be adjusted in the three standard lengths: 170 / 172.5 / 175 mm.
