The rise of the massage robot

Well we all knew that robots would be useful someday. Surprisingly, this industry has existed since around 2015, but it appears that the technology has matured to a point of reaching the “masses”.

Watch this industry grow, because “it just makes sense”.

Here are the top 5 massage robots making trends in the sports and health:

Phill Robot: World’s 1st AI-Powered Massage Robot

Phill is the first massage, scratch, and caress robot with AI made to be right next to your bed.

Flexiv reduces the cost of back massages

While massage therapy is certainly helpful for some back problems, it also tends to be expensive. California tech company Flexiv has set out to change that, by getting a back-massaging robot to do the job.

Flexiv is utilizing its existing Rizon 4 robotic arm, which has seven degrees of freedom and a weight of 20 kg (44 lb). For this particular application, it is equipped with a new soft silicone heated massage tool.

ALEX

Alex uses Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence to recognize what you like—and learns from it. After every massage, the robot is smarter; evolving.

Little is know about the device “ALEX”, but the story about the Founder goes:

“Christian has owned a product-design and engineering firm for 22 years. In 2013, he broke his back in an off-road accident. In therapy, he imagined a massage robot to help him feel better. Christian knew he and his team of engineers could make his vision a reality.”

EMMA - Expert Manipulative Massage Automation

This is EMMA. EMMA stands for expert manipulative massage automation. It’s a robot designed to give a therapeutic form of massage called Tuina.

Getting a massage from a robot may seem like something out of a science fiction story, but it could be a reality in the not-too-distant future. Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, is looking into the possibility of robotic massage as an answer for patients' pain relief and alleviating some staffing burdens.

IYU by Capsix Robotics

By the way all of this isn’t new!!

It would be remiss of me not to mention the originators of this new market.

Capsix Robotics builds the world’s first massage device with a sensitive robot. The iYU massage robot with the integrated LBR Med aims to include massages into the daily life of people and make the lives of physiotherapists easier.

Together with his wife Carole, François Eyssautier founded Capsix Robotics in Lyon in June 2015. Physiotherapist Stéphane Rollet is the third partner in the enterprise, founded with the aim of developing an automated massage device. This goal has been achieved with the completion of the iYU, which can almost entirely replicate the work of a masseur thanks to its complex technology. For this purpose, a sensitive and collaborative robot had to be integrated into the application.

Capsix Robotics chose the LBR Med to meet the requirement. “We are the first to offer a robotic-based wellbeing massage,” says François Eyssautier, not without pride.
