Trending

  1. Rucking - the new military phenomenon that is trending in America. Here is Nike's guide to rucking the right way: "Everything You Need To Know About Rucking: What It Is, Risks, Benefits And How To Do It"

  2. We spoke about Smart Basketball's in an earlier newsletter, well huupe claim to have created the world's first smart basketball hoop. My Yoda senses tell me this will be a more stable product than a ball, and you can view your stats without your phone (displayed on the board). Just like gym mirrors, maybe we should focus on making the environment smart rather than compromising the function of equipment with embedded tech. Always the dilemma of a sports innovator.

  3. More great work to increase diversity in healthcare. "She Matters is a digital health platform designed to support Black mothers who experience postpartum comorbidities by providing access to community, culturally competent healthcare providers, and culturally relevant resources."

  4. It seems like the isolation of COVID has inspired the next generation of sports innovators to focus on group exercise. The latest start-up we came across was Link My Ride. A pre-ride organisational platform that allows cyclists to explore, plan and create group rides - for free!

  5. Music as medicine is a trending theme. Medimusic is leading the way with trials in the the NHS to "dispense music as medicine to reduce anxiety and pain." We know that the effects of music on exercise performance is extremely powerful, so why not people's general health? Should someone have spotted this opportunity sooner?

Sports Science

"In addition, night owls’ emotional state during physical activity seems to be more susceptible to exercise timing than that of early birds. In order to achieve the best emotional state, it is suggested that night owls arrange courses in the afternoon or evening in future training."

Liu et al., 2023 - Mood Status Response to Physical Activity and Its Influence on Performance: Are Chronotype and Exercise Timing Affect? - Link

Circadian rhythm is becoming a more and more interesting field of study in athletes. In this study the authors examined night-owls (people that stay up late at night), early risers, and all the rest in-between to see if there was a correlation to performance and / or a better time to train.

We have always judged the best time to train as that which we can fit into our lifestyle and around work, but maybe in this new flexible working world we can better plan our day around our health needs.

The constant optimisation of human lives.

Technology (AR, VR, AI, E-sports, etc.)

AI Sports Equipment Design of the Day

We are loving AI at the moment and think it will change how we design sports equipment forever, so here is our new design of the day.

Today's inspiration was Project X, so we asked PlatgroundAI to generate glasses based on 1000 features and this is what it produced.

AI Glasses with 1000 features

AI Glasses with 1000 features
