1. Generation Esports
254% growth over the past 3 months
Esports organization aiming to increase the presence of Esports in schools.
Generation Esports is starting to have a dual meaning.
Firstly, there is the business, formed in 2012, which provides an innovative platform for schools, businesses, clubs, and communities to compete in esports.
Second, is a term used by the esports industry to expand esports to the grassroots.
With 200,000 registered users and over 5,000 partner schools, Generation Esports is becoming one of the largest platforms for gamers.
We should take notice because grassroots initiatives appear to be the best way of solidfying a sports future. In previous meetings with sports governing bodies, there is a lot of talk of capturing children attention to ensure the future of the sport. With the lack of infrastructure needed for esports & fun, engaging action; it clearly has the advantage in this arena.

2. Virtual Scoreboard(s)
525% growth over the past 3 months
Virtual Scoreboard is a tool that letβs users create and display a scoreboard virtually.
An often overlooked business opportunity is (virtual) scoreboards. In amateur sporting competition there are often quite a few things missing that would improve the experience, for example:
A referee
A scoreboard
A timekeeper
Live stats
Clear lines / boundaries on the pitch
There are an influx of new virtual designs that are transforming the infrastructure & environment of amateur sport. The start is virtual scoreboards but in time we will get to virtual referees.

Expected goals calculates how many goals a team βshouldβ score.
In business we call this the NorthStar Metric, expected goals is rapidly becoming the defacto metric for soccer bettors, analyst, & coaches.
It calculates how many goals a team should have scored based on the quality of the chances created (https://footballxg.com/what_are_expected_goals/).
The process for calculating an expected goal from any given chance was originally created by Opta. They reviewed hundreds of thousands of historical shots to then work out the percentage chance of a shot being scored from any particular situation. There are now a range of different models that are getting more and more advanced (taking into account the location of the shot, the position of defenders and goalkeeper, height of shot).
In simple terms, shots from close range and in front of the goal tend to have the highest percentage chance of being scored. The best example is a penalty which is on average scored 76% of the time. That means that if a team were awarded one penalty and no other shots, their xG would be 0.76.
Long shots from outside the area have a lot smaller percentage chance of conversion and usually have an xG close to 0.01 i.e. 1% chance of a goal.
Using the same example, a team with one penalty versus a team who has taken 20 long range shots should on average win over the long term i.e. xG of 0.76 versus 0.2 (roughly 1-0). This is a good example of how shots can provide a misleading impression on how a game is going.
There is a whole website dedicated to this statistic. Why is this important? We are now at a stage of data analytics and matches recorded that we can define which metrics are most important for winning.
