First ever Golf Metaverse!

Web3 golf company Play Today recently launched the first-ever golf metaverse in partnership with Drummond Golf, Australia's largest golf retailer.

The "Play Today Metaverse" is an interactive 3D virtual world built by golf players for golf players and will be used to live stream the upcoming NSW Open Golf Championship.

It allows participants or "Players" from across the world to connect with each other and experience new and exciting ways to explore the world of golf.

Play Today will also launch the world's first golf innovation center inside the metaverse, called the "Drummond Golf Innovation Center."

Players can enter the innovation center and use augmented reality to virtually view innovative new golfing products from leading golf brands.

Metaverse haptic T-shirts

The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in Taiwan recently developed a haptics shirt that can enhance VR and metaverse sports and fitness experiences with sensory feedback over the body.

iMetaWear, as it's called, is designed to give the user a more immersive gameplay as a result of bodily sensations that make the experience feel more real.

Matchday, a soccer-centric Web3 gaming startup, recently announced that it has raised $21 million in seed funding to develop a variety of games.

Among the investors is legendary soccer player Lionel Messi’s venture capital firm, Play Time.

Chiliz, the sports blockchain, has announced a strategic investment in MatchWornShirt, (MWS), the home of match-worn and signed sporting memorabilia. Chiliz will receive a 20% stake as part of the investment.

Athlete raises $50k in crypto to fund career

Felix Mischker, an up-and-coming tennis star from the UK, recently raised $50k from various sports fans to fund his career on the platform FANtium.

FANtium is a sports asset tokenization platform that lets sports fans invest in athletes.

We did not know this, but many of the top athletes take salary in crypto. Check out this list:

  • Steph Curry (global ambassador for FTX)

  • Spencer Dinwiddie (bitcoin investor and co-founder of web3 startup Calaxy)

  • O'Dell Beckham (received compensation in bitcoin)

  • Russell Okung (received compensation in bitcoin)

  • Aaron Rodgers (received compensation in bitcoin)

  • Shohei Ohtani (global ambassador for FTX and among athletes sued in collapse)

  • Klay Thompson (received part of his salary in Bitcoin)

  • Andre Iguodala (received part of his salary in Bitcoin)

  • Luana Pinherio (collaborated with Bitwage, to convert portions of her salary into bitcoin)

  • Paul Pierce (recently fined by SEC for promoting EMAX coin)

Sports fans more familiar with crypto

Crypto might be a relatively new concept, but sports fans know their way around the market better than most.

Check out these stats:

47% of sports fans said they are familiar with cryptocurrency; 27% said they currently own some

66% of self-proclaimed “avid” sports fans and 72% of sports bettors said they’re familiar with cryptocurrency

Men are about twice as familiar with cryptocurrency as women, and 3 times as likely to own some
